Fornite's weekly patch has dropped, and just like last week's, this round is again a little content-light. That doesn't necessarily mean that what's included in this week's patch isn't going to have some big implications for the game – on the contrary, the new Air Strike item is likely to have a dramatic effect on late-game build wars. Builders be warned: If you like to hole up in structures, this new item seems like your worst nightmare.
Air Strike is a new item that allows you to throw a can of colored smoke that calls down a barrage of missiles. In today's patch notes, Epic says that the missiles will spawn about 120 meters above where the can rests and they'll cover a radius of about 9 meters around it. There will also be 20 missiles called down in total, so you definitely do not want to be in the strike zone if you can help it.
The missiles – which land randomly – have an explosion radius of 3.5 meters and deal 75 damage to players and 200 damage to structures. While that's a significant amount of player damage, it seems that Air Strike will be particularly well suited to bringing down structures. Needless to say, if you're hiding out in a structure, be sure to keep an eye on what your opponents are doing because when an Air Strike is added to the equation, things have the potential to get hairy fast.
Here's the good news for all of you now living in fear of death from the skies: Air Strike is a legendary item that drops in a stack of one and has a max stack size of two. That means you probably won't encounter Air Strikes very often, and when you do, your opponent likely doesn't have many they can use. In other words, bait out the Air Strike and then start a build war.
That's about it for this week's patch notes, but there is a new limited time mode rotation to be aware of as well. The rotation this time around includes High Explosive Squads, Sneaky Silencers Solo, Classic Squads (which only features weapons and items from seasons 1 and 2), Solid Gold Duos, Catch Squads, and Blitz Squads. You can read the full patch notes – which include changes to Save the World and Creative mode – over on the official Fortnite site.
