Remember when Sony refused to allow cross-play on PS4 meaning you needed a second Fortnite account to play on Switch? Well, cross-play was embraced, but there was no way to merge that new account you created, until now!
This week, Epic is finally allowing you to merge two Fortnite accounts into one, a feature that has been requested ever since Sony blocked Fortnite accounts working with the Switch.
In June last year, Sony caused outrage when it was discovered playing Fortnite on PS4 meant the same account login wouldn't work on the Nintendo Switch. The solution involved creating a brand new account purely for Switch, which also meant no access to items and Vbucks in your existing account.
Sony relented by September and embraced cross-play, but that left many players with two Fortnite accounts and no way to merge them. As Eurogamer reports, Fortnite's creator Epic promised to fix the problem by launching an account merge tool. It's taken quite a while, but that merge tool is finally available.
Using the tool is simple. Select a primary and secondary account, with the secondary being the one you want to disable and merge into the primary account. In order for it to work, "one account must have played on Xbox One or Switch and the other on PS4 before September 28th 2018." It also won't work if either account is currently banned or disabled.
There are some limitations to the merging process. So while Battle Royale will allow all cosmetic items to be merged, and Save the World allows all, "Llamas, Defenders, Heroes, Schematics, Survivors, XP, Evolution and Perk Materials" to be merged, any other items obtained through the Unreal Marketplace, Creative Islands, and Save the World account level and progress won't get merged.
The process can be started by visiting the Account Merge page and going through the steps. Be aware that your in-game items and Vbucks from the secondary account will be held for two weeks before they appear in your primary account.
